What is individual therapy and how does it work?

What is integrated therapy and how does it help?

Individual therapy is one-on-one meetings, either in-person or virtually, with a therapist and client working collaboratively to achieve client goals. Many different modalities may be utilized or integrated to meet your unique therapeutic needs.

Integrated therapy can be similar to traditional talk therapy, but it can also entail many different modalities or types of therapy to help achieve client goals and overall wellness. While a singular therapy may be an effective treatment method for some, the integration of multiple types of therapy has been proven to be effective long-term. This is because different types of therapy may be used to address mental health concerns that haven't been helped by more talk therapy alone.

There are sometimes things that individuals do not know how to express or do not possess the ability to audibly express in talk therapy. Therapies that do not involve an extensive amount of verbal communication can engage new parts of the brain and body to help clients heal.

What types of therapy do you provide at Carolina Integrated Therapy?

Some of the methods we use to promote wellness include traditional methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and person-centered talk therapy. Other evidence-based modalities that may be used may include mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), yoga, meditation, dance movement, music and art psychotherapies.

How do I know what kinds of therapy I may need?

Every treatment at Carolina Integrated Therapy is a collaborative effort. If there is something that you gravitate toward, your therapist would love to hear it! Each client will meet with a therapist to establish goals, discuss past treatment (if any), and decide together how to work toward those goals. This may evolve over the course of treatment to include more modalities for individual client concerns or devolve once goals are achieved.

What if I just want traditional talk therapy and nothing else?

We believe that you are the driving force in any effective change to be made. We seek to help you meet your unique goals, create meaningful change in your functioning and allow for growth to happen on the client's own terms. Whether this be to address your overall mental well-being or specific emotional difficulties, treatment is always based upon the needs of our individual clients. Should a client wish to utilize one specific modality, that is the method that will be used if the client and therapist deem it appropriate based upon evidence-based research to address the client needs.
